Community Building Partnership (CBP) 2026 Grant Program - Newtown

Welcome to the CBP 2026 Program for the Electoral District of Newtown. This program provides an opportunity for local community organisations and councils to strengthen the wellbeing of NSW communities through small local infrastructure projects.

The local Member of Parliament (MP) has prepared the below summary of the electoral district priorities to provide guidance to applicants considering lodging an Expression of Interest (EOI) for 2026 CBP funding in the electoral district of Newtown.

Electoral District Priorities

Newtown is a densely-populated electorate (54.8% of dwellings are apartments) that has long been a hub for communities who are underrepresented in other parts of NSW, and the organisations that serve them (35.7% of residents are born overseas, and we rank 1st in NSW for the number of same-sex coupled households). Newtown is also characterised by vast wealth and housing disparity, ranking 14th in NSW for the number of households receiving nil income, and 8th for total households receiving $3,000+ per week.

Priorities for funding through the CBP program include:

  • Projects that increase community participation from underrepresented populations such as First Nations people, social housing residents, LGBTQIA+ communities, asylum seekers, people with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and students
  • Projects that provide free and increased access to green spaces and other recreational community spaces for residents in apartments, social, and/or student housing
  • Projects that improve our aging public school facilities, such as upgrades to indoor and outdoor learning spaces, climate-proofing, and accessibility upgrades
  • Projects that assist frontline community services organisations to better meet the needs of their clientele who may be experiencing family violence, navigating the justice system, seeking asylum, or experiencing housing insecurity
