Community Building Partnership (CBP) 2026 Grant Program - Monaro

Welcome to the CBP 2026 Program for the Electoral District of Monaro. This program provides an opportunity for local community organisations and councils to strengthen the wellbeing of NSW communities through small local infrastructure projects.

The local Member of Parliament (MP) has prepared the below summary of the electoral district priorities to provide guidance to applicants considering lodging an Expression of Interest (EOI) for 2026 CBP funding in the electoral district of Monaro.

Electoral District Priorities

The Electorate of Monaro is a regional electorate, with the majority of population living in either the regional city of Queanbeyan, or in smaller regional centres such as Cooma, Jindabyne, Braidwood and Bungendore.

Community sport plays a large part in the electorate, so access to up-to-standard playing fields and other sporting infrastructure is essential.

Monaro has significant gaps in accessibility infrastructure, especially in the less populated areas of the electorate. This poses a barrier for people with a disability from fully participating in the community.

Furthermore, the electorate has a long history of multiculturalism and has a proud community of individuals from many different backgrounds, however community organisations representing and supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities often lack the funding to improve their infrastructure.

Sporting Infrastructure:

As a regional area, sport plays a massive role in community building and cohesion.

Regional areas often lack other recreational activities that are found in more urban areas, meaning sport is often the only option for people looking for something to do with their spare time, or for parents looking for extracurricular activities to enroll their children in.

The Monaro electorate has participation across many sporting codes, however there is ever increasing demand for participation in community sport that is outpacing the ability for sporting clubs to upgrade infrastructure.

Priority will also be given to services focusing on women’s sport and facing disadvantages in access.

Accessibility Improvements:

As a regional electorate, disability infrastructure in Monaro needs improvement, especially in the less populated areas of the electorate.

Regional areas already pose barriers to full community participation for people with a disability due to a lack of accessible and regular public transport, long distances required to travel for specialist care, and reduced access to disability support services compared to an urban area.

People with a disability should be able to access community spaces, businesses and essential services regardless of their postcode.

CALD and First Nations:

The electorate of Monaro has a large culturally and linguistically diverse community, which has grown over time, especially due to immigration of workers for Snowy Hydro, both historically and recently.

Applications focusing on unmet needs for newly arrived migrants and first nations communities will be one priority area.

Education:

Monaro has many not-for-profit groups working in education.  In many cases they are maintaining or improving facilities that are not fully Government funded.

Early childhood education is a particular priority.

Community facilities:

Monaro’s towns have many community owned facilities, including those managed by not-for-profit community-based groups and councils.  Enhancement and maintenance of these facilities is always a high priority.
